In which I play with zombies again.

Todays blog is an eclectic mix of delights and some (much improved) photographs of pirates.

I have done all sorts of crafting lately including a necklace from a t shirt into a crazy scarf type thing.

I confess this wasn't my idea. I got from Scientific Culture who got it from another blog, who got it from a video. And then it turns out that there are people making these all over the internet. However I like it enough to share it.

This is how someone does it properly

I also went a little bit playmobil crazy again today.

I made a whole new display, putting away the Christmas adventure and bringout Arabian pirates! Oh yes. My sister got me a lady pirate for Christmas and so me and John played around and built up a scene based around that slight increase in pirate figures.

There is a pirate court on one side of the table and at the other end their treasury is being attacked by zombie pirates. These arn't just any zombie though. They are rather idea-stolen living undying dead pirates as in -they cannot be killed. Dum dum dum! Guarding the secret meeting to discover how to destroy the zombies. Two zombies against the lone man with a crossbow. The captain fends a zombie off whilst her men hold the ladder in place, dragging some treasure to hold it down.

I havent mentioned anything about my superhero activities lately I know. I have been experimenting with my origami powers some more in order to create a new tool for my crime fighting. More on that next time!

In which I play with Christmas Playmobil and other pretty things

I meant to do a blog post last night but I was busy having fun with the unfortunately name Gimp program. I tried before to learn how to use it and even invited someone round only to spend the evening using his DS. I don't entirely call that a wasted evening though. Anyhow it seems to me that the best way to learn in the end is just trying to teach myself. I have also decided that the secret to any of these programs like gimp or Photoshop is brushes and 'opacity.'

Sorry that was me showing off my brushes. Ah. So by 'brushes' I mean the secret is cheating and using premade art work by other people to do your own. Also please believe me that the final product was a bit more tasteful than the above.

The world is a little bit up and down at the moment. I keep counting 'good things' and 'bad things' in my head. The situation is that I have lots of good things right now, but lots of bad things coming up so bad things now is mostly worry. In fact that is it, there are plenty of things to be happy about but nagging worries in the back of my mind. Like the fact that I was left a note yesterday telling me that something terrible is going to happen to this town on the 12^th December. That really left me unsettled.

One of the things I am happy about is I just bought some more playmobil. More Christmas playmobil! This is it:

If you read my blog earlier you may have seen that I am rather obsessed with collecting and playing with playmobil even though I may be older than their official target audience. Once of the things I love doing with playmobil is setting up a scene.

To me it isn't all "Ha ha! I have you again Mr. Bandit," but more creating a freeze frame of a moment, leaving it for a week of so and then creating the next moment in the story after that. In each 'frame' or 'scene' I imagine the back-story and who all the people are and what got them to that point. I've done this for a very long time actually. It's more like story brainstorming in a way.

Or just me being silly. I think I just tried to justify the fact that I have too much fun. The overall scene. Here everyone is having a Christmas party hosted by the magical team who run all our seasons. Father Christmas does not go to them, they go to him.

Here a ninja and a pirate share a toast together, because it is Christmas.

Here the zombies eat a rabit rather than a human because it is Christmas. Also an explorer is surrepticiously checking what is in their brains.

I also had a king sharing a hip flask with a pirate (because it is Christmas) and a wolf with red eyes being petted by a small child (because it is Christmas). I love these little touches.

In which I review some awesome blogs and think about the universe

I decided to break away from my usual habits in blog reading of looking up fashion blogs like Sea of Shoes and pining for beautiful clothes. I thought I would try looking for more things in my other interest –comics. What hero doesn't love reading comics and picking up tips? I found a list called the Comic Blog Elite. I've been scrolling through trying to find new good things to read. So many of them were just reviews of comics. I think if you are going to do that there has to be something to mark you out, other wise how can I choose which one to read?

I confess I have been kind of drawn to things to do with girls, like Has Boobs, Reads Comics or My Comic Book Crisis

Because hey I like girls being involved in comics. Interestingly both their latest articles are a pretty image feast. The former doing hot guys in cosplay and the latter doing the marvel swimsuit edition. Like this:

Images like that kind of make the ridiculously huge breasts of Storm and Wonder Woman seem more acceptable. There was also a picture of Collosus in leapord print boxers...

However the best new blog I have found is 'Comics make No Sense'

Seriously I have been laughing hysterically at this for days whilst I back read it. He takes old comic panels and points out the ridiculous in them. I found another blog that did a similar thing but the commentary here is the true wit and the other one posted the panels with no further comments.

I have found it so funny that I was hunched over my laptop in near tears. If that's not a recommendation I don't know what is. :)

I have in the mean time been making a list of major problems with the universe and how they can be solved by origami.

When the internet doesn't work I have a moment of panic and think:

It's true I could read.

I could play scrabble.

Or I could save the universe.

Threat of Nuclear War -I really want to sneak around destroying all the nuclear weapons but I have a feeling that would just go terribly wrong. I don't know enough about science to carry this out successfully. This isn't Wonder Woman where I can carry it into the sea under my arm and leave it there feeling that was a job well done.

World Hunger –Already tried this one. Paper creations are just bad for the stomach. See entry

Racism – That one is really about the way people think. Not sure I can make people change their minds with my weapons. And tbh mind ray guns and the like usually fall into the villain category.

Global Warming –Ok I should definitely be able to do something about that. Like I could make a giant mirror for the sky. Or huge paper fans. Actually John could just make more ice caps for the polar bears. I might get him onto that. You know how it is with guys though. You have to poke them a bit before they save the universe.

Also I can make sure all my origami paper is recycled! Actually... I really prefer using nice washi paper and after it turns back to paper from being a gorilla or whatever it is usually ruined. Curses. Even my small attempts at saving the universe backfire.

The thing is when we aren't being attacked by super-villains or space robots it is pretty hard to save the world from these kinds of things. At least we keep the zombies at bay though!

Blogging again and this time on the day I want to blog! Yes I orginially planned to blog every Tuesday but that seems to have been interrupted by own business.

So here I am.

It has been an interesting week. John has gone away on some 'secret plan' stuff in the mountains which means I won't see him again for a little while for which I am a little sad faced. However life goes on.

I bought some new playmobil this week. You may not have guessed yet but I am rather obsessed with children's toys because I really can't grow up. I just got this set:

Zombie pirates! How awesome.

Well it is awesome until you actually fight them. I can use my figures to work on strategy. Once I had to face down a zombie family who were posing as drama students. These were intelligent undead rather than crawling along 'Braaains' type. They were luring people along to 'improvsed theatre' events and then eating them. I pretended to be a lecturer to get in and then crafted a whole audience out of paper. They ate them till they were stuffed and then went home where I killed them quietly and efficiently. Sorry for the gruesomeness today. I just can't play with my little pirate figures without remembering it.

It is my birthday this week actually! I'm very excited and wondering if I'll get anymore playmobil.
